TAI RECOMMENDS!

What do we know about effective data use? More than we did. We are excited to share the findings of our multi-year exploration of data for accountability projects in Nigeria and Colombia. Vielka Polanco discusses how the Ministerio de Economía, Planificación y Desarrollo in Dominican Republic collaborates with civil society to promote more effective local NPO accountability. See what she thinks on what type of accountability is required and to whom.

Leopoldo Maldonado Gutiérrez from Article 19 in Mexico said in a recent interview: "Sometimes, CSOs have focused on wealthy philanthropists rather than a broad number of individuals donating to an organization’s mission, which in turn will contribute to an organization’s reputational social capital.“ He urges the social sector to diversify the audiences or stakeholders to which one is accountable as well as the forms of CSO accountability.

Our own Eszter Filippinyi stresses why is unrestricted funding by donors and mutual accountability between donors and recipients important in this article.

Finally, Forus presents how we transform feedback into data, dialogue and solutions. Discover the Toolkit ‘From engagement to voice’, a how-to guide for funders and practitioners alike.

Last week we talked about the governance of water, this week we start with this call for transparency from the World Food Programme’s chief economist. “Governments should be more transparent about the size of their reserves, so there is an accurate accounting of how much of each crop is actually available”, he says. Openness is critical to finding solutions to so many pressing problems.
